Social Worker

• From 1996 to 1998 was a foster care worker with a caseload of twenty children, most of who were severely emotionally disturbed. My responsibilities included placing each child in a foster care setting and advocating for that child at all times. This essentially involved monitoring all aspects of the child’s life; assessing and contracting for mental health services, preparing court documents and other reports.
• My current position, begun in November of 1998, as a Sexual Abuse Intake Social Worker is three-pronged. As an investigator, working with the Family Crimes Police Unit, I employ the use of a structured forensic protocol when interviewing child victims who may have been sexually abused. I also interrogate the alleged offenders. When required I testify as an expert witness in civil and criminal Court hearings. In my role as social worker I obtain a social history of the child and family, (including the offender) and arrange for services with a goal of reunification. Frequently also provide short term counseling to families in crisis.
