Career Achievements

  • Network Extension to RAF Croughton. A 27 KM new build network, designed, tendered and built to customer specifications. Agreements had to be sought from several local authorities and Defence Estates; this was delivered under budget and ahead of CDD.
  • London to Folkestone for SSE. A 120km cable install in existing network, spanning 5 local authorities. The CDD was 12 weeks, but this was handed over for acceptance in 6 weeks with all the relevant test results (CD and PMD).
  • New Data Centre. Delivery of external network to new flagship site in Dockland, and the internal structured cabling to customer colo areas.
  • Network Extension to 2 RAF Bases. An 80km new build network, designed, tendered and built to customer specifications. Agreements had to be sought from several local authorities and Defence Estates; this was delivered under budget and ahead of CDD. This also included upgrading the on base network for which I received a Certificate of Appreciation from the US NSA.

  • I worked part time, alongside the final year of my degree, as Network Manager in the largest middle school in Leicestershire. The Job entailed:
  • Managing two technicians
  • Maintenance of schools servers
  • Managing IT departments budget
  • Purchase and installation of new equipment
  • Interviewing and testing new applicants for the Network Manager role
  • Research of new technologies

2008 – 2009

Humphrey Perkins High School, Loughborough (Industrial Placement)

Technician

  • I was employed as a technician for the first three months of my placement. I was allocated the role of managing the school’s network, due to my line manager changing jobs and his replacement having personal problems. The Job entailed:
  • General Laptop Maintenance
  • Maintenance of a wireless system
  • Installation of new client machines
  • Maintenance of client machines, physical and software
  • Setting up rooms for presentations
  • Installing new software onto the schools network
  • Organising and setting up of a video conference between a year group and a recipient
  • Managing an open source Course Management System, included; role assignments, server backups, user authentication and enrolment
  • Assisting technically in school productions
  • Setting up and joining computers to the schools domain
  • Covering classes when teachers were absent
  • Being a classroom aid to children with special needs and learning difficulties
