Bench joiner for Adams and Palmer

  • During my time at Adams and Palmer I have been working mainly as a bench joiner; from making and veneering round vanity units, to fitting the skirting and architrave to match
  • I have to read detailed drawings, complete cutting list and calculate what materials have to be ordered according to the specification
  • The work we do was is always for superior up-market residences therefore the finish has to be immaculate in every aspect
  • This job has been great for my development as a joiner due to the standards required whereby anything less than perfection is inadequate

July 2004 – July 2008

Carpenter

Joiner for Border Construction.

  • At my time with Border Construction I was based in a workshop for one year and on site for three years
  • The jobs I was employer on were very varied: one week I would be fitting shop fronts, the next making and fitting winder stairs
  • I covered every aspect of joinery while an apprentice with the firm
  • There was a time when even though I was an apprentice I was asked to undertake the making and fitting a replacement abbey roof
  • I then had to work in a trying environment with high winds and driving rain, to build a replica 800 year old oak roof with traditional joints
  • As we were using cranes to lift trusses into place the communication between me and a team of subcontractors was paramount due to the conditions
  • I spent a large amount of time working with the Border Homes subsidiary company
  • Doing every aspect of carpentry associated with house building
