Professional Experience:

Research Assistant Professor at Dept. of Pharmacology, UNC at Chapel

Hill. 2005 Present

  • Research Assistant
    Research Assistant
My current research focuses on the fundamental role of CIB1 in vivo.
  • Using mouse genetic model as well as cell and molecular biology and functional genomics, generated a mouse model lacking CIB1. Found the CIB1 is essential for spermatogenesis. It also plays roles in angiogenesis, cell cycle regulation and hemostasis in mouse.

Postdoctoral Fellow at Department of Pharmacology, UNC at Chapel Hill. 1999 2004: Advisor: Dr. Leslie V. Parise

  • My research in Dr. Parise’s lab focuses on the function and signaling properties of a regulatory protein called CIB1.
  • Used megakaryocytes derived from cultured mouse bone marrow stem cells to study integrin a IIbb°3 and CIB1 function and found CIB1 is an endogenous inhibitor of integrand.
  • Generated a CIB1 knockout mouse and a CIB1 transgenic mice to study the role of CIB1 in mouse embryonic development and its role in integrin signaling pathway
  • Applied and funded by NIH for the study of CIB1 function in integrin signaling pathway

Graduate research associate at Dept. Anatomy and Cell Biology, Univ. of Florida. 19931998: Advisor: Dr. William A. Dunn

  • My Research focused on the regulatory mechanism of protein degradation pathway in yeast systems. In this position,
  • Successfully established a study model for autophagy in yeast Pichia pastoris using genetic, molecular, cell biology and biochemistry approaches
  • Identified 8 complementation groups of glucose induced selective microautophagy (gsa) mutants in yeast Pichia pastoris
  • Cloned two gsa genes that regulate the microautophagy by genomic DNA library screening
  • Among the first scientists to discover a second ubiquitinlike protein degradation pathway
  • Both studies were published and the combined lab results were orally presented at a minisymposium in a 1999 ASCB meeting

Professional Skills:

Experiment design and analysis

  • Biochemical analysis: Enzyme activity, protein chemistry including protein purification, Western blot, and immunoprecipitation, ELISA
  • Molecular biology: DNA expression library screening, vector construction, site directed mutagenesis, bacterial and yeast transformation, gene screen and recovery from genomic library, PCR, Real timePCR, Northern, Southern, analysis of gene expression, gene targeting, gene knockout, Protein expression studies using retrovirus propagation and transfection of cell line and bone marrow cells.
