Career Break

Software Designer

• Introduced software lifecycle documentation to facilitate end user sign off and improve development estimates for project control. Ensuring end users fully understood the deliverables and produced much more accurate estimates for project management.
• Created a change control system in order to centralise change and fault recording across all projects. Facilitating accurate management reporting over software change or faults.
• The key manager for a team that created a central support system that became the basis for all future software development in the company. It had formal procedures and processes built into it that standardised many software functions. Thereby reducing maintenance effort and bringing in common routine code.
• Introduced a prototyping tool to demonstrate system design to customers and to assist in finalising business and end user requirements. This process clearly illustrated the expected deliverables for the customer.
• Set up a control group to investigate faults raised by testing teams in order to eliminate any incorrectly raised or duplicate faults. This relived work pressures on the fixing team and improved perceptions of the software being delivered.
• Reviewed problematic batch processes. By careful analysis and redesign managed to significantly reduce the time taken by these processes which in turn made more time available within the to resolve operational issues.
