Basically it comes under services sector as consulting is providing services to different companies or for customers and providing solutions to their problems.
What special skill set or value do you bring to the table?
As consultants in this industry is mainly in providing solutions, the applicant should be confident enough in answering the new value adds he is brining in to the organization. He should be able to drive the business with a vision and create specific goals, deadlines, team structure, goals and objectives and he should not be just like any other employee who just follows the well defined streamlined process.
Do you have good experience dealing with similar project problems like in my industry?
Applicant should have researched about this company before attending the interview, and can give illustrations of his previous problem handling experience in similar industry. However, if it’s a technology solution, then its common across multiple industry. But if its specific to business solutions, web site implementation or recruitment, then applicant needs to give specific examples related to handling problems.
How much time do you need to understand our business and start off with your work?
Applicant should answer this by saying, a little bit of training on particular business domain is required. My learning curve includes the understanding of basic terminology and underlying economics or to understand your company’s business models. From there, I will be able to identify business problems and start providing solutions.
How will you ensure that you deliver the advice you give for my company?
Here, interviewer is trying to find out if consultant can provide unbiased solution and solid advice. In this case, applicant should answer that he will work closely with the concerned departments and identify the problem first and then get to root cause analysis. You should never say that I know the problems faced in this industry, because its closes the option to the interviewer, each company might face different issues. Applicant here should lay out all the ways that they might proceed without overwhelming the options, Also should ensure that he gives good examples of his previous experience in handling such business problems.
How will you handle “Conflict of Interest” that may come from your business problem suppliers?
Here applicant for this interview should answer that no matter what issues he has to face, he needs to provide his advice based on his knowledge after clearly identifying the problem. If co-workers or suppliers disagree, they have to state a reason as to why they disagree. But irrespective of agreement or dis-agreement, -consultants have to stand for some of their core beliefs and hold to them in advising their clients.
As consultants are billed hourly, the interviewer would be more interested in understanding and checking the capabilities of the consultant. So during Consulting Services interviews, one has to face a case study interview. So its always better to relate to their previous experience as to how you dealt with the problem and explain that. During case study interviews, it’s a two way discussions, so applicant will be assessed on how he goes about dealing with the problem than giving specific answers.

For this question, applicant should focus on how he/ she solved the situation and became a better person because of it. Here, basically interviewer is comparing the candidate on his/her competition skills, in other words…this test is been graded on curve. So the applicant should answer that he is a go-getter, is challenged and internally motivated to do well.
